My Credentials

A designation of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors

I am registered as a Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association for Clinical Counsellors. I hold a Master’s degree (M.S.) and a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Counseling Psychology from Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa). I am on the Board of Directors of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and the Vice President of the Vancouver Island (South) and Southern Gulf Islands Regional Council for the BCACC.

I provide counselling for individuals, couples, family groups and also facilitate psychotherapy groups and psycho-educational groups. I also provide mental health crisis interventions at Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring through the auspices of the Salt Spring Island Community Services Emergency Mental Health program.

My approach to counselling is holistic, client-centered, and oriented to looking at how the problems that confront us can be used to challenge us to grow and change. Holistic, to me, means to take into account the complexity of interactions between body, mind, nature and spirit. Experience shows that utilizing mindfulness, and acceptance with an open mind and heart, will help us to create the optimal conditions for growth and change. My practice of counselling is a collaborative adventure, where acting as your guide, we explore the territory that is the ground of your life and together search for new places to discover.

My sincere belief is that the single most important ingredient that leads to good outcomes in counselling and therapy is the therapeutic alliance. This alliance becomes reflected in the connection between us and the sense of trust that we will develop. With this connection, we will be able to use a variety of techniques and tools to help you find the change you are looking for.

All of the techniques and tools I use have come from studying, training, and drawing on many years of experience in the field of helping others. The following list reflects some of the methods that I frequently use.
